<h1 class="collapsed">Using SmartSketch Templates </h1>

<p>Using any one of many templates SmartSketch provides as a starting point for
creating a document, you can be productive as soon as you open the box and
install the software. Each
SmartSketch template is set up to provide tools such as text, formats, geometry,
dimensions, units of measurements, toolbars, and styles that are used to produce
a new document that uses a specified format. </p>

<p>The template that you use depends on the type of information you
want to put in the document.
For example, you can use an electrical schematic template to create a drawing that
contains a schematic of an electrical component. When you base a document on a
particular template, that template automatically points to the symbols that you
would most likely use for that type of document. </p>

<p>When you select a specific template, tools are available
that allow you to create either a precision drawing or schematic diagram. </p>

tutorial you will be able to:

<p>A frequently used drawing or part of a drawing can be stored in one document

define. Graphic data used in this way is called a symbol. Symbols increase
drawing productivity because they allow you to access existing graphic data
quickly and easily. With a symbol, you can place graphic information repeatedly

than 7,500 industry-specific symbols. For most standard templates, the Symbol
Explorer automatically opens and displays a default directory for all the

<p>An attribute is a user-defined property or parameter assigned to an element,
object, or document. Attributes can include such items as the manufacturer,
price, and other data.</p>

<p>User-defined properties are attributes that define a characteristic about the
object or element and are usually in the form of a text notation, such as cost
or location. You can change the user-defined properties without affecting the
appearance of the element or object.</p>

<p>A parameter is an attribute assigned to an object or element, usually a
numerical value representing a dimension. Changing a parameter of an object or

<p>A frequently used drawing or part of a drawing can be stored in one document
and placed in other documents at a scale, position, and orientation that you

drawing productivity because they allow you to access existing graphic data
quickly and easily. With a symbol, you can place graphic information repeatedly

<p>Text labels are associated with an element or object. If you move the element
or object, the text label moves with it. You can create text labels in a
document by double-clicking an element or object. A text label appears near the
element so that you can type text. The label appears at the location where the
element is double-clicked, except for closed elements, such as a circle or

When you enter the text that you want, the text label orients itself with the
element. </p>

<h2 class="collapsed">Adding Dimensions to a Drawing</h2>

<p>Dimensions supply information about the size, location, and orientation of
elements, such as the length of a line, the distance between two points, or the
angle of a line. Dimensions are associative to the elements they refer to, so
design changes can be made easily.</p>

<p>To dimension elements, you choose one of the dimension commands from the
Dimension toolbar, and then select the elements to be dimensioned. As dimensions
are placed, SmartSketch shows a temporary, dynamic display of the dimension
being placed. This temporary display shows what the dimension will look like if
the current mouse cursor position is selected. The dimension orientation changes
depending on where the mouse cursor is moved</p>

<p>After completing the tutorials in this lesson, you will be able to:</p>

<h1 class="collapsed">Using the SmartSketch Learning Center</h1>

<p>The SmartSketch Learning Center is designed to get up and running quickly with
SmartSketch. It&nbsp; consists of eight separate tutorials designed to introduce
you to SmartSketch's key features. In turn, each tutorial consists of a variety
of individual lessons intended to give you hands-on practice using many of
SmartSketch's most commonly used tools.&nbsp;</p>

<p>You can save time when you use the Learning Center by understanding, before you start the
tutorials and lessons, how instructions, keys to press, and so on are
shown. Please take a moment to read the following list, which also points
out helpful features of the Learning Center you may want to use.</p>
