Set Drawing Sheet Properties

Each working sheet can have its own setup. Working sheet characteristics, such as the size and scale of the sheet, can be modified with the Sheet Setup command from the File menu. 

Click the Show Me   button on the SmartSketch Learning Center toolbar to view a demonstration of the tasks in this lesson.

1. On the File menu, click Sheet Setup.

On the Sheet Setup dialog box, you can enter settings for your drawing sheet. One document can contain several drawing sheets and each drawing sheet can have different settings.

2. Click the Size and Scale tab of the Sheet Setup dialog box, enter the following settings:

Sheet Size: Standard, A Wide (11 in x 8.5 in)

Tip  

• Click the Standard radio button, and then select the A Wide setting in the list box next to the Standard radio button.

Drawing Scale: Select scale:  1:1 in

Note

• When the scale is specified using the Sheet Setup command, everything on the sheet is scaled except dimensions and annotations. For example, if the scale is one inch to 10 inches (1:10) and a line 30 inches long is placed, the line is three inches long in proportion to the sheet and three inches long when printed. However, a dimension measures the length of the line as 30 inches.

Important

• Dimension and annotation sizes  in the sheets are independent of the view scale. For example, the height of dimension text will be printed at the specified size regardless of their screen appearance.

Paper Units: Units - inches

Note

• SmartSketch uses both paper units and model units. Paper units are used to manage the printable size of dimensions and annotations. Model units are used to represent the graphics in their real world sizes. You can adjust model units and paper units with the commands on the Format menu.

3. Click the Background tab and verify the Background sheet option is set to None.

• A background sheet is used as a backdrop to the working sheet. 

Important

• Changing the background sheet causes the size and margin settings of the working sheet to update to the values defined by the selected background sheet. Setting this option to none does not change the size or margins of the working sheet, it removes all elements used from the previous background sheet.

4. Clear the Show Background check box to turn off the display of any background sheet graphics.
5. Click OK to save your changes, close the Sheet Setup dialog box, and return to your SmartSketch drawing sheet.

Note

• If you select the Save Defaults button prior to closing the Sheet Setup dialog box, all new sheets will have the same characteristics.

6. Click the Fit button on the Main toolbar to fit the drawing sheet within the active view.
