Open an Office Layout Template

The following lesson highlights the workflow for creating a network diagram. The first step in creating an office layout is to create a new document based on a General Diagramming template.

Click the Show Me   button on the SmartSketch Learning Center toolbar to view a demonstration of the tasks in this lesson.

1. On the File menu, click New. 
2. Expand the General Diagramming folder, and select the Office Layout (Imperial).igr template. 

Tip

• To expand a folder, click the  that appears just to the left of the folder icon.

3. Click OK to create the document.

Once the template opens, notice that the Symbol Explorer displays directories and subdirectories of delivered Office Layout symbols.

Note

• The Symbol Explorer provides a simple user interface to drag symbols from a directory to the current document.

Tips

• If you don't see the Symbol Explorer, click the Symbol Explorer button  on the Main toolbar.

• Double-click the bar at the top of the Symbol Explorer to display it as a separate window. You can now drag the Symbol Explorer to relocate it or resize it.

• The Symbol Explorer can be docked either on the left- or right-side of the SmartSketch window.

4. On the Main toolbar, click the Zoom In command. 
5. Click once in the middle of the drawing sheet.
6. On the Main toolbar, click the Place Doubleline command.

Tip

• On the Draw toolbar, click and hold the Line/Arc Continuous command to display the Place Doubleline command.

7. Draw a rectangular room approximately 12' by 9'.
8. On the Main toolbar, click the Zoom Area command.
9. Click just above the upper left corner of the rectangle and drag down to the bottom right of the rectangle to draw a fence around the room.
