A group is a set of elements that you have selected. Grouping elements allows you to work with them as a unit. For example, you could place a computer monitor and base into a group. This allows you to move, copy, or delete the entire group at once.

In this lesson, you will work with SmartSketch's drawing tools to create the individual components of a corner desk in one section of your drawing sheet, and then group the desk elements and place them in your office layout.

Click the Show Me Show Me  button on the SmartSketch Learning Center toolbar to view a demonstration of how to perform the tasks in this lesson.

  1. On the Main toolbar, click the Fit Fit Button button. 
  1. On the Draw toolbar, click the Line/Arc Continuous Line Button button. 

Notice that the Line ribbon displays.

  1. On the ribbon bar, click the Line Color Line Color Button button, and select Dark Green to change the line color. 
  2. On the ribbon bar, click the Line Width Line Width Button list, and select .35 mm to change the line width. 
  3. Towards the top center of the document, click and move the cursor to the right and place a 30-inch horizontal line.
  4. Click to finish the line.
  5. Place another line that is 24-inches at a -45° angle.
  6. Move the cursor down and place a 30-inch vertical line.
  7. Move the cursor to the left until the line that you are placing is aligned with the top left line, click to place a horizontal line.
  8. Click the top left line to complete the drawing of the corner desk.
  9. Draw a 30-inch vertical line from the top left of the corner desk.
  10. Draw a 30-inch horizontal line to the right.
  11. Complete the line by drawing a vertical line to connect to the corner desk.
  12. Draw a 48-inch wide by 30-inch high desk that connects to the lower right of the corner desk.
  13. On the Draw toolbar, click the Select Tool Select Button.
  14. Click and drag the mouse cursor from the upper left corner of the drawing down to the lower right corner to select the three sections of desks.
  15. On the Main toolbar, click the Change Change Button button. 

Notice that the Change toolbar displays. You can use the commands on this toolbar to manipulate drawing elements.

  1. On the Change toolbar, click the Move/Copy Move/Copy Button button. 
  2. Select the lower left corner of the desk and move the mouse cursor to place the desk at the left bottom of the room on the right.
